NIKE DESIGNS T-SHIRT TO PROMOTE WOMEN'S SPORT
SALES HELP WOMEN MAKE SPORTS A REALITY
Part of Nike’s new Pan-European women’s marketing campaign, “Here I Am,” is about communicating that women who play sports are stronger in body and mind. As part of its February 2008 campaign, Nike designed a women’s T-shirt that features several “Here I Am” campaign statements like “Yes to the things that make sense to you” and “Yes to letting the little things stay little things” in eight different languages.
Nike will donate 10 euros for every shirt sold to the non-profit organization Women Win. The specially designed T-shirt is available online and throughout Europe in Nike stores and independent retailers. The T-shirt is made of five percent organic cotton and contains Dri-FIT fabrication to wick away moisture from the body during training.
T-shirt sales will support Women Win’s goal of empowering underprivileged women and girls by providing access to safe sport facilities, appropriate clothing and proper equipment. Playing sports on a regular basis can help young women feel healthier, more confident and more successful in life. But without safe spaces, coaches and equipment, playing sport is often not an option for millions of young women around the world.
Providing access to sport for underprivileged girls is part of Nike’s global community investment program Let Me Play. Nike uses its initiative to empower kids through sport as a tool for positive social change.
