Nike hasn’t stopped at campus initiatives when it comes to reducing its environmental impact. It has taken the Considered approach on the road and in the air, following Nike employees as they travel around the world.
At WHQ, employees have saved 48,000 auto trips by using alternative forms of transportation to get to work. And the world campus has made it easier for employees to commit to preserving the environment by providing 125 electric vehicle charging stations at WHQ.
Also up-and-running at the Beaverton campus--Nike's main business hub-- are nontoxic and biodegradable fuel trucks that substantially reduce carbon emissions. By using biodiesel in place of diesel fuel to operate the trucks, the exhaust emissions of harmful gasses are essentially eliminated, while carbon output is less than half that of regular diesel fuel.
Because Nike does business all over the world, air travel is commonplace for many employees. Nike has set up a plan to help alleviate these environmental travel strains through its Eco-Class program. By funding oxygen-generating projects and improvements to the emissions of other devices (school furnaces for example), 100 percent of employee air travel is now offset! Employees have also taken steps to reduce their travel by video conferencing, setting up virtual meetings and combining meetings where possible.
Finally, committed to environmental and sustainable development, the Nike France team has partnered with the courier service, Lungta. Lungta’s four electric cars and 25 scooters transport Nike goods with zero pollutant emissions. Looking for an added bonus? Noise pollution is alleviated as well because the vehicles run almost silently, offering a better means of cleaner transportation.
Nike has laid the foundation for cleaner travel options. Now, how can you take advantage of the numerous and highly accessible green business travel offerings?
